Dr B Soma Raju, MBBS, MD, DM (CARDIOLOGY)

Founder Chairman, Care Institute of Health Sciences

Prof B Soma Raju is Chairman of the Care Institute of Health Sciences. In 1997, Dr Soma Raju, along with a group of leading cardiologists, founded the CARE Group of Hospitals (comprising 14 hospitals, across 5 states today). He continued to lead the Group as Chairman and Managing Director for 22 years till 2019, setting many milestones along the way.

A multi-faceted personality, Dr Soma Raju is a cardiologist, researcher, teacher and philanthropist, with an overriding passion for training and learning. He began his career as Assistant Professor of Cardiology at Osmania Medical College, Hyderabad, before joining the Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences, Hyderabad, in 1984. When he left in 1993 as Head of the Department of Cardiology and Dean, he had built one of the best departments in the country and trained a whole generation of cardiologists.

Dr Soma Raju conducted the first percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty (PTCA) in India and led a team which has performed the largest number of cardiac interventions in the country. He was integral to the development of India's first indigenous coronary stent — named the Kalam Raju Stent after former President of India Dr A P J Abdul Kalam and Dr Soma Raju. This led to a dramatic reduction in the cost of stents, bringing them within the reach of the people. He was also key in the development of India's first coronary balloon catheter and continues working on medical devices for use in interventional cardiology to offer more affordable Indian alternatives for the common man. He was conferred the Padma Shri in 2001.


Dr D N Kumar, MBBS, MD (GEN MED), DM (CARDIOLOGY)

Director, Care Institute of Health Sciences

Dr D N Kumar is a senior consultant cardiologist and a core founder-member of the CARE Group of Hospitals. After an MBBS from Kakatiya Medical College, Warangal, he did his post-graduation from Osmania Medical College and DM (Cardiology) from Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences, Hyderabad. He has been into professional teaching for several decades, starting as Assistant Professor in Medicine and Cardiology at the Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences. He worked as Consultant Cardiologist at Mediciti Hospitals from 1993 to 1997. After the launch of CARE Hospitals Group in the year 1997, he headed the Cardiology Department of CARE Hospitals, Nampally, Hyderabad till 2004, when he took over as its Medical Director till 2019. He continues to serve as Senior Consultant Cardiologist at CARE Hospitals, Nampally, Hyderabad. A committed philanthropist, he established and continues to support a school at Charla (Khammam district, Telangana) wherein around 1000 students are studying at almost no cost. He mentors them and initiates programs to help them develop into successful citizens. He has also helped to set up a hospital in Charla that caters to the needs of BPL patients.


Dr P Raghava Raju, MD, DM (CARDIOLOGY)

Director, Care Institute of Health Sciences

Dr Raghava Raju commenced his career as a Resident (Cardiology) at Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS), Hyderabad in 1985 and became Assistant and Associate Professor (Cardiology) in 1987. He worked as a Consultant Cardiologist in Mediciti Hospital and was involved in both coronary and non-coronary interventions. He participated in two randomized trials conducted by NIMS – WSU, namely, "Closed commissurotomy vs PBMV" and "Open mitral commissurotomy vs PBMV". He also participated as a preceptor for the technique of Transseptal Cardiac Catheterization and Percutaneous Balloon Mitral Valvuloplasty. He has performed numerous coronary and non-coronary interventions and has many publications in national and international peer-reviewed journals. He was a founder member of the CARE Hospitals Group and continues to serve as Senior Consultant Cardiologist at CARE Hospitals, Banjara Hills, Hyderabad.


Dr Sarat C V Talluri, MBBS, MD, DNB

Senior Consultant Doctor

Dr Sarat Talluri is a Senior Consultant in Critical Care and General Medicine at CARE Hospitals, Hyderabad, since 1997. After his MBBS, he did a Postgraduate Rotating Internship at Gandhi Hospital, Hyderabad, followed by a Fellowship in Pulmonary & Critical Care Medicine at Wayne State University, Detroit, USA. He completed his junior and senior residency from the Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences, Hyderabad and his USMLE from Medical Center, USA (American Board of Pulmonary & Critical Care) in 2000.


Dr Rajeev Vijaykumar Menon, MD (GEN MED), DNB (CARDIOLOGY)

Director, Care Institute of Health Sciences

Dr Rajeev Menon joined CARE Hospitals in 2005 as Consultant Cardiologist. He received the "Best Outgoing Student" award from the Indian Medical Association from Osmania Medical College for the year 1997. He completed his MD (General Medicine) from Gandhi Medical College, NTR University of Health Sciences, Hyderabad and has a Diplomate of National Board of Examination. He presented a paper on "Multi-organ Failure in Falciparum Malaria" at the Mid-term Association of Physicians of India (API) Conference in 2000. He also presented a Gold Medal winning paper "Duct Dependent Lesions" at the State Cardiology Society of India (CSI) Conference in Hyderabad in 2003. He was Visiting Faculty at the TCT Interventional Cardiology Forum, Asia Pacific and USA. He is presently Consultant Cardiologist at CARE Hospitals, Hi- tech City, Hyderabad.


Mr B Kasi Raju

Director, Care Institute of Health Sciences

Mr Kasi Raju is a management professional with diverse experience of 24 years in sectors such as IT, Pharmaceuticals and Healthcare Delivery.  Before joining CARE Hospitals, he managed a significant portfolio as Director, SSL, New Jersey, USA.

At CARE Hospitals, he has led various verticals such as Operations. Marketing, New Initiatives and Projects at the enterprise level. He has directed CARE’s growth from one single speciality hospital to a chain of multispecialty hospitals across the country. He is the architect of CARE’s growth and expansion. He was instrumental in attracting FDI in CARE Hospitals and, later, managed investor relations as part of his key responsibilities.

Mr Kasi Raju has a postgraduate degree in Business Administration from Clemson University, USA and enjoys excellent business relations across various sectors. 


Col M Rajgopal (retd)

Consultant, Care Institute of Health Sciences

 
Colonel M Rajgopal (retd) headed the Care Institute of Health Sciences (CIHS) as Group COO, before continuing his engagement as a Consultant. He served in the Indian Army for 27 years in the field of Logistics, Material Management and Human Resource Management. He worked as the Executive and Business Head in large logistics installations with complex inventory. He has vast experience in the field of training and was Head, Faculty of Studies at the Army Materials Management College and Chief Instructor for training officers on Defence Management subjects.
 
Col Rajgopal worked with the CARE Group of Hospitals as Group CHRO for more than ten years and also underwent the Post Graduate HR Course from XLRI, Jamshedpur, where he stood fourth in order of merit. He was awarded the ‘HR Practice Leaders Award’ during the South Asia Regional HR Summit held in Mumbai in 2014. Under his guidance, CARE Hospitals was conferred the ‘Best Hospital to Work For Award’ in 2016 by the Association of Healthcare Providers, India. He is also a certified Executive Coach from the international Neuro-Leadership Institute.

Dr Vijayanand Basuthkar

Head, Safercare, Care Institute of Health Sciences

Dr. Vijayanand Basuthkar is Head of the Safercare Simulation Lab at the Care Institute of Health Sciences. Dr. Vijayanand is a European Union certified Simulation Instructor, and Pedistars certified level 2 instructor. After his graduation from the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences, he did a Post Graduate Diploma in Emergency Medical Services from Symbiosis Institute of Health Sciences, Pune, followed by an MBA (Hospital Management) from Madurai Kamraj University, Madurai. He worked as an Instructor in Emergency Care and Pre Hospital Care at GVK Emergency Management and Research Institute, Hyderabad for 8 years, and then as Lecturer at Inaya Medical College, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, where he also chaired the Faculty Development Program, EMS. He was Project Manager for the World Bank Development Market Place 2014 project for developing an emergency response for the North-East India region.

As a certified ACLS, BLS and PALS instructor Dr. Vijayanand has conducted training for several hundred participants, as well as ITLS (International Trauma Life Support) and Advanced Life Support for Obstetric Emergencies (ALSO) American Academy of Family Physician batches. He has trained over 300 Indian Police Service (IPS) trainee officers in first aid, evaluated 160 trainee officers and conducted programs for Emergency Medical Technicians. He has presented papers at EMCON (2013 and 2014). His areas of interest are simulation-based training and Emergency Medicine.
